Your driver from Advisor Morocco Tours will pick you up from your hotel, airport, or harbor. We will begin our 6 day desert tour from Tangier, which will take you through the breathtaking Rif mountains, past Tetouan, and to the quaint blue city of “Chefchaouen,” where we will have free time to explore this quaint little town.
Explore its historic medina, Ras el Ma, also known as the “head of the water,” where the fresh mountain cascade seeps into the town, and stroll down its winding lanes, which are painted in blue and white to provide the chance to get some lovely photos. At a nearby restaurant, you will have a delectable meal.
You will also visit the famous Plaza Uta el-Hammam square. After your tour is finished, we will head straight to Fes, where you will be able to take in breathtaking views of the Rif mountains and the verdant northern Moroccan landscapes. We will arrive in Fes late in the afternoon and spend the night in a luxurious hotel or riad.
The tour of Fes,one of Morocco’s oldest and most important imperial cities, will begin with breakfast in your riad. You will observe that it has not been affected by the passing of time.
You will learn about Moroccan Jewish history by touring the Royal Palace gate yard and the historic Jewish neighborhood known as Mellah. The tile art factory is part of your tour, followed by a stunning overview of the town.
You will then begin a walking tour through the winding streets, stopping at the well-known old tanneries, the Quaraouine Mosque, the oldest university in the world, the Attarin Medersa, and the Najjarin Fountain. Following the tour, we will drive you back to your riad.
Your six-day vacation from Tangier to Merzouga continues via the Middle Atlas highlands, passing past Berber settlements as you go towards the Merzouga desert.
Make a stop at the stunning city of Ifrane, sometimes referred to as “Moroccan Switzerland,” then on to Azrou, the well-known cedar forest where you may observe monkeys, and last, the village of Midelt, where you can stop for lunch.
After that, we’ll travel south through the picturesque Ziz Valley to Erfoud, which is well-known for its fossils and annual festival dates market. In the afternoon, we’ll arrive at the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes for dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel in Merzouga.
We’ll begin our Merzouga 4×4 adventure after breakfast at your accommodation to see various and fascinating locations around the Erg Chebbi dunes. We’ll stop by Hassi Labied Oasis to observe its irrigation canal and land cultivation before heading south to the seasonal Sriji Lake (if there’s water in it).
If you want to hear the Gnawa music of the dark-skinned people who were brought to Morocco as immigrants more than a century ago while working as slaves, we’ll carry on to Khamlia hamlet. We will next proceed to M’ifis Mines. In addition, the Merzouga Desert is a popular tourist destination because of its minerals and fossils.
Our Merzouga 4×4 desert trip will include a visit to a nomadic Berber family who are still residing in their tent in the midst of the Sahara. We will enjoy a glass of mint tea with them and learn about their way of life.
We’ll pause at several sweeping vistas to soak in the view and snap photos of the attractions. Following lunch at a neighborhood eatery, we’ll return to the hamlet, where you may journey on camels to our Berber Camp in Merzouga. The camel ride lasts between one and one and a half hours, with a stop on top of the dunes to watch the sunset. If you want to attempt sandboarding, you may do it as well. After this lovely journey, you can snap pictures and enjoy the scenery.
You will be given a drink of tea upon arrival at the camp, where you will unwind until dinnertime. Following dinner, you will hear traditional Berber drummer music, take in the starry sky, and sleep beneath a nomadic tent.
Since you are already in the desert, it is worthwhile to rise early today to witness the sunrise close to the camp. Following these beautiful moments, you will eat breakfast and take a shower at the camp before riding camels or making the 4WD transfer back to the starting point, where you will meet your driver.
As you proceed with your six-day Morocco itinerary, you will visit the weekly market in Rissani if it falls on a Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday. We will also travel through small Berber villages like Touroug, Tinjdad, and Tinghir, where we will pause to take in the stunning Todra Valley, which is teeming with palm trees and other vegetation.
We go to Todra Gorge, a well-known location for rock climbers at the base of the High Atlas Mountains, where we will have free time to explore its lofty canyons. After taking a lunch break, we will travel to Boumalne Dades in the afternoon. Once we reach Dades Valley, we will have supper and spend the night at a hotel or riad.
Today is the last day of our Tangier desert tour. On day 6 of our journey, we continue in the direction of Marrakech via Kalaat M’gouna, Rose Valley, and Skoura Palm Grove. We will visit Kasbah Taourirte and film studios in Ouarzazate (optional).
Then we will drive to Ait Benhaddou, where we will visit its famous and oldest kasbah (declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986). Famous films have been shot in this spectacular place, including Gladiator, Obelix, The Mummy, The Jewel of the Nile, and Sahara with Penélope Cruz… free time to have lunch.
We continue our trip, crossing the High Atlas mountains via the highest road pass in Morocco, called Tizi N’tichka. At 2260 meters above sea level, it offers impressive views of valleys, mountains, and many Berber villages nearby. Arrive in the afternoon/evening in Marrakech, transfer to your hotel, and your 6 day desert tour from Tangier ends.
