5-Day Morocco Desert Tour: Fes to Marrakech via Merzouga

Your private driver-guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Fes in the morning and begin the 5 days tour from Fes to Marrakech through the beautiful Middle Atlas Mountains. The first stop will be in Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” because of its alpine-style architecture, clean streets, and peaceful mountain atmosphere. Continuing through Azrou and the cedar forests, you may have the opportunity to see Barbary monkeys in their natural habitat while enjoying the fresh mountain scenery.

The drive then continues through Midelt and the spectacular Ziz Valley, famous for its thousands of palm trees, traditional Berber villages, and breathtaking panoramic views. Along the way, there will be several relaxing stops for coffee, photos, and lunch before arriving in Merzouga Desert in the late afternoon. Upon arrival, you may choose either a sunset camel ride through the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi or a comfortable 4×4 transfer directly to the luxury desert camp. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner, Berber music around the campfire, and an unforgettable night beneath the stars of the Sahara Desert.

After breakfast, you will spend the day exploring the fascinating Sahara Desert region and discovering its unique culture and traditions. The journey begins with a visit to Khamlia village, well known for its traditional Gnawa music performed by descendants of Sub-Saharan families who settled in the area generations ago. You will then continue to visit local nomadic families living near the dunes, where you will be welcomed with traditional Moroccan tea while learning about their lifestyle, customs, and daily life in the desert.

Later, the tour continues to the old M’Fis mining village, offering a glimpse into the region’s history and beautiful desert landscapes. Throughout the day, there will be opportunities to stop for panoramic views, photography, and relaxation. In the afternoon, optional quad biking can also be arranged for those wishing to experience the dunes in a more adventurous way. The evening will be free to relax and enjoy another peaceful Sahara sunset.

After breakfast, you will leave the Sahara Desert and travel toward the traditional town of Rissani, famous for its authentic local market and historical importance as the birthplace of Morocco’s royal family. Continuing through beautiful oasis landscapes and desert villages, you will arrive in Tinghir before visiting the spectacular Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most impressive natural canyons with towering rock walls reaching over 300 meters high.

Here, you will have free time for a gentle walk through the gorge, relaxation by the river, and photos of the dramatic scenery. After lunch, the journey continues along scenic mountain roads toward Dades Valley, an area famous for its unique rock formations, kasbahs, and breathtaking landscapes. Several panoramic stops will be made along the way to fully enjoy the beauty of southern Morocco.

This morning begins with breakfast before continuing through the beautiful Dades Valley and the Valley of Roses, an area known for its fragrant rose fields, traditional Berber villages, and local cosmetic products made from roses. The drive continues along the famous Road of a Thousand Kasbahs with several scenic stops throughout the day.

In Skoura Oasis, you will visit the famous Kasbah Amridil, one of the best-preserved kasbahs in Morocco and a wonderful place to learn about traditional southern Moroccan architecture and history. Surrounded by palm groves and peaceful desert scenery, this region offers a very authentic atmosphere. In the late afternoon, you will arrive in Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Morocco,” known for its desert landscapes and international film studios where many famous movies and series have been filmed.

After breakfast, you will visit the famous Atlas Film Studios in Ouarzazate, one of the largest film studios in the world and the filming location for many international movies and television productions. The journey then continues to the magnificent Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most iconic ancient fortified villages.

After exploring the kasbah and enjoying lunch, you will continue through the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains via the scenic Tizi n’Tichka Pass. Along the way, there will be several panoramic stops to enjoy the mountain scenery, traditional Berber villages, and spectacular landscapes before arriving in Marrakech in the late afternoon, where your unforgettable journey comes to an end.
