After breakfast, your local guide will lead you on a walking tour of Fes, Morocco’s oldest imperial city. You will visit the Jewish Quarter (Mellah), the gates of the Royal Palace, and a tile factory. From there, enjoy a panoramic view of the medina before exploring its narrow streets. Discover the tanneries, the Quaraouine University and Mosque (the oldest in the world), the Attarine Medersa, and the Nejjarine Fountain. After the visit, return to your riad for the night.
We leave Fes and travel through the Middle Atlas Mountains. The first stop is in Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco.” Next, we visit Azrou Cedar Forest, home to wild monkeys, before continuing to Midelt for lunch. The journey continues through the Ziz Valley, a long palm oasis with spectacular views. By late afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, on the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes, for dinner and overnight in a desert hotel.
After breakfast, we explore the Merzouga area by 4×4. Visit the Hassi Labied oasis, the seasonal Sriji Lake, and Khamlia village to enjoy Gnawa music. We also stop at the M’ifis mines and visit a nomad Berber family to learn about desert life. In the afternoon, return to Merzouga for your camel trek into the dunes. You will watch the sunset from the top of a dune before arriving at the desert camp. After dinner, enjoy Berber drumming around the fire and spend the night in a traditional tent under the stars.
Wake up early to admire the desert sunrise, then return to Merzouga by camel or 4×4. On the way to Dades Valley, we stop at Rissani Market (if it’s a market day). Passing through Berber villages such as Touroug and Tinjdad, we reach the beautiful Todra Gorge, where you will have free time to walk along the canyon. After lunch, continue to Dades Valley, famous for its rock formations, for dinner and overnight in a riad or hotel.
