5 DAYS DESERT TRIP TO ZAGORA AND MERZOUGA FROM MARRAKECH

Itinerary

Welcome with us in a tour from Marrakech to Ouarzazate, the gate to the bottom of Morocco, passing by the High Atlas mountains and exactly by the highest road in Africa Tiz’n’Tichka (2260 m). This road offers us a stunning view with all the landscapes and the nature surrounding this way. But right before reaching Ouarzazate we will make a little visit to one of the most famous Kasbah’s in the country, it is the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, considered by UNESCO as a world heritage, and has featured in many films, mostly as a replacement for Jerusalem. It has appeared in more than 10 movies, including Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator.

Later we will proceed to Zagora by crossing the left bank of the Draa, where we will eat and sleep the night in an hotel of course.

In this morning we will depart from Merzouga to Zagora a small town located in the Draa River valley of Souss-Massa Draa in the south-east of Morocco. Passing by Tazzarine where the palm groves and henna fields are still a pretty sight, then through some beautiful villages.

We will eat lunch at Tazzarine, and after taking a break we will continue our way in the afternoon to Merzouga and Rissani the ancient capital of Tafilalet. In the late evening we will eat dinner and sleep overnight in a bivouac in Merzouga.

Woke up and had lunch, we’ll make it to Erfoud and then to Tinghir, this city is at the center of one of the most attractive oases in southern Morocco and it’s famous with its lush palm grove. After having lunch at Tinghir we will spend the afternoon visiting Todra Gorge, a natural high rocky cliffs made by the force of nature. The gorge takes its most spectacular form about 15 km from Tinghir. The canyon walls closes in to a mere 10 meters from each other, while the sheer and smooth rock walls rise up to 160 meters on each side. And here too many movies were filmed because of the nature of this place.

In the late evening we will go to the hotel to eat and take some rest preparing for the next day ahead.

Good morning in the 4th day of our private tour. Today we will head to Ouarzazate pasding by a national road known as “the thousand Kasbahs” along the Dades Valley to almost 150 km, between the mountains of the High Atlas and Anti Atlas. Admire the fortified villages clay. On the road we will get into Klaat M’Gouna, a beautiful little city. It is famous for one thing: roses. Kalaat M’gouna means Valley of the Roses and the city itself is named after the nearby Mount Mgoun.

Later this afternoon, we will make it to Ouarzazate, where we are going to eat and rest this night.

It’s going to be our last day on this tour, today we will show you Ouarzazate, and all its attractions such as the movie studio, and of course the desert, this city has so much to see in, but there’s no enough time for this, so we will start returning to Marrakech early passing by Tizi’n’Tichka, the highest road in the country, so we enjoy again the view of the snow everywhere.

After a couple of hours on the way, we will reach Marrakech in the late afternoon.
